Back from NYC.

Good trip, will have to update more later, but suffice to say, we went to Chinatown each day we were there and for each meal ate at multiple restaurants.  Yum.  So much food....

I got egged.

Or at least my car did.  Driving home the other night, I pulled onto the street next to mine, saw these two kids, and just as I passed them they got awfully close and I worried I might hit them.  Next I hear a thud and my windshield is covered in yellowish goo.  Stupid kids could have caused an accident if it was busy at that time.  I'm sure I wasn't the first car they had thrown stuff at.  I can't confirm it, but I'm sure they are the same ones that months ago were throwing rocks a few blocks from that incident.  Had they not squeezed through the fence, I was actually tempted to follow them home in the event they ever actually break a window.  As it is, I need my passanger window fixed, so too bad they didn't break it, maybe I could have gotten their parents to pay for my window fix then.

Then again, I did stupid crap like that when I was younger so I guess I can't complain too much.

For the STL people:  I got a letter asking me to apply for a hospitalist job at St. Johns.  For those of you there, do the hospitalists seem to like it there?  I'd like to stay here, but I'm open as I'll need a real job if I don't get a fellowship.

I finished my last day at Rush North Shore, at least till I'm up there for next year this afternoon.  I had meal tickets left over and walked out with two shopping bags and a case of drinks.

Going to NYC in 2 weeks, never been there.  Any recs on restaurants?  Specifically Chinese, Korean, and any other local/ethnic places that New York might have that are a bit more unique (Puerto Rican or something).  Mainly something Chicago won't have as much of as NY would or one that would be different.

Strange day for news.

First I hear that another hospital system might want to buy Rush North Shore, or at least that Rush is open to the idea of selling it.

Next I hear an attending I did ambulatory (outpt) clinic with last year, and had scheduled for my first non call month this year is no longer having residents in his clinic.

Lastly I get an email summoning those of us who are still at another outside Rush clinic for a meeting Monday.  There can be nothing good based on who was on that list and what we have in common, especially with the above instance.

What the heck is going on?

And another thought on my daily commute to and from North Shore from downtown.  Do people not work anymore?  Traffic is incredibly slow every afternoon, whether its 11 am till 7pm.  I didn't know most people got off by 11-1pm.

The other day in clinic, another resident said that in his medical school, a good teacher point involved asking everyone starting at the most junior (3rd years), and all the way up to senior residents asking them to say one thing they learned on rounds.  A good idea, but not one that we do usually.

With that in mind, this is what I learned last week

"Good virgins are better."

Garbo had another good quote, but I forgot it.

Good weekend:  picnic Sunday, good dinner Sat/Sunday, and a day off Sunday.

Starting to make vacation plans:

Lower budget option - SF, Seattle, Vancouver.

More expensive option - Italy (Rome, Florence, Venice)

Ideas?  Recommendations on places to visit for those in either of those locations in the past?

Looking at Oct 10-24th or so for those in the Seattle/SF area.

Also, I've got 2 weeks that aren't good for Grace's schedule, any of you SoCal people have some time in Jan/Feb.

I went outside in the rain yesterday for a brief walk.  It was fun, haven't done that since I was a kid.
